Keep in mind that police records show incident details. They are not the same as a statewide criminal history from the BCI. For a full background check covering all of Utah, you need to contact BCI directly.

Note: Juvenile records are generally not available to the public under GRAMA and are treated as protected records under Utah law.

Orem Criminal History Through Utah BCI

The Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification maintains the statewide criminal history database. All arrests and convictions in Utah feed into this system, including those that happen in Orem. The Bureau of Criminal Identification is the main source for a complete criminal background check in Utah.

BCI is located at 4315 South 2700 West, Suite 1300, Taylorsville, UT 84129. Their phone number is (801) 965-4445. Three ways to request a criminal history record exist. You can go in person, mail in your application, or use the online system. As of July 2025, the fee for a name and date of birth search is $20. A fingerprint-based search also costs $20. If you want to check your own record, the fee is $20 as well.

Fingerprint-based searches are more accurate than name searches. Name searches can return records for people with similar names. A fingerprint search ties the result to one specific person. BCI can take your fingerprints in person at their Taylorsville office, or you can use an approved Livescan provider. Either way, you send the card or digital file with your application.

Note: BCI criminal history records cover arrests and dispositions from across all Utah counties, not just Orem or Utah County.

Orem Court Records and Criminal Cases

Criminal cases in Orem are filed in the Fourth District Court. The court is located at 125 North 100 West, Provo, UT 84601. The main number is (801) 429-1000. All criminal filings, case histories, and court orders from Orem go through this court and become part of the public record.

You can search Fourth District Court cases through the Utah Courts website. The Utah Courts MyCase portal lets you look up cases by name or case number at no cost. Basic case information is available to the public, including party names, case status, and filing dates. To get copies of actual documents, contact the clerk directly or visit the courthouse in Provo.

For subscribers, the XChange court records system provides access to full case documents. XChange costs $30 per month and gives broader access than the free MyCase search. Attorneys and researchers often use XChange when they need full document access on a regular basis.

Utah law under Utah Code Title 53, Chapter 10 governs criminal identification records. This statute defines how criminal history data is collected, stored, and released. Anyone doing research on Orem criminal history should understand the basics of this law and what records it covers.

Orem Warrant Records

Utah maintains a statewide warrant database that you can search online. The Utah Statewide Warrant Search covers active warrants from agencies across the state, including the Orem Police Department. You can search by name to see if an active warrant exists. This tool is free to use and available to the public at any time.

Warrants issued in Orem go through the Fourth District Court. If a judge signs a warrant, it gets logged into the court system and the statewide database. A warrant may be issued for failure to appear, unpaid fines, or new criminal charges. Checking the warrant database is a good first step if you are unsure whether an active warrant exists.

If you find an active warrant, contact the Orem Police Department or an attorney before taking further steps. Warrants do not expire on their own. They remain active until a person appears in court or the warrant is recalled by a judge.

Clearing a Criminal Record in Orem

Utah law allows some people to clear their criminal history through expungement. The process removes qualifying offenses from the public record. Once granted, the record is sealed and not visible in most background checks. Utah launched the Clean Slate program in February 2022, which allows automatic expungement for some low-level offenses without a petition.

For offenses that do not qualify for automatic expungement, you must file a petition with the court. The Utah Courts provide a guide to the expungement process at utcourts.gov/howto/expunge. The petition filing fee is $135. After the court grants expungement, you must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility from BCI. That certificate costs $65.

Not all offenses are eligible. Capital offenses, first-degree felonies, and certain sex offenses cannot be expunged. Waiting periods also apply depending on the offense level. The courts website has charts showing the waiting periods and eligibility rules. If you have a criminal history in Orem and want to explore expungement, review those guidelines carefully before filing.

Note: Once a record is expunged, you may legally state on most applications that you were not arrested or convicted for that offense, with certain exceptions for licensed professions.

Utah Offender Search and Corrections Records
